Hello! My name is Erik. Welcome to Nothing Town. This is my internet website.

All music and sounds are available for download on their individual pages. Clicking on photos will link you to their full-resolution versions.

Feel free to use anything you find here for whatever purposes you see fit. All I ask is that you credit me and link back to this site if possible.

Process

Photography

I tend to alternate between digital and analog photography. I’ve got a Minolta x-700 that was originally sent to me by a friend for repair. At some point I also picked up a Nikon FM at a flea market, which was a nice find since I already owned a few vintage Nikon lenses that I use with adapters. The cameras themselves tend to be pretty cheap, as long as you’re willing to put up with regular maintenance and the occasional repair job.

I develop and scan all of my film at home, and I’ve modeled my digital workflow to closely mirror the analog process. On the digital side, I shoot with FujiFilm cameras and I try to do as much work as possible inside the camera itself. Most of what you see on this site is JPEG straight from the camera. My primary lenses are a Voigtlander Ultron 27mm F2 (often paired with a 1/8 black mist filter) and a Fuji XC 50-230mm f/4.5-6.7.

Music

My music production workflow is pretty rough. Any tracks that sound reasonably well-produced likely come from the Dirtywave M8, a small hardware tracker. The more weird and experimental sounds are made on my modular synth, normally recorded straight from the rack during a jam session. Occasionally, I’ll use a standalone synth or an external sequencing software like Orca or Midinous.

I carry a small field recorder with me wherever I go. I’m always looking for new sounds to sample.

Largely avoiding computer-heavy workflows with both of these hobbies is a deliberate choice. My job requires me to sit in front of a screen all day. I like to be able to get away from that when I can.

Technical Details

The site itself is made with Hugo and served through AWS Cloudfront. I’ve found Hugo to be a great tool for static site generation. Normally, I’ll get infinitely absorbed into implementation details of a project. This setup is dead simple, and it allows me to focus purely on content generation.
